In what can only be called a turn of fate, a dramatic mid-sea rescue, the kind seen perhaps only in movies, was recently carried out in the middle of the Caribbean sea. The rescue, carried out on September 28 by a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship in the international waters between Mexico and Cuba, was caught on video.

The dramatic videos shot by passengers showed a group of stranded people being rescued from a makeshift raft. However, what stood out from the incident was the fact that it was purely by luck that the ship, ‘Enchantment of the Seas’, passed through that stretch of the Caribbean.
Royal Caribbean Cruise ship arrived in the area by chance
The 1997-built ‘Enchantment of the Seas’ was not supposed to be in the area. It changed course only to avoid the Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda, which are threatening the Eastern Seaboard of the US, in the Atlantic Ocean. The vessel, a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship, was on its way from Florida’s Tampa to Costa Maya in Mexico.
The rescue videos shot by passengers on the cruise showed a rescue boat from the ship reaching out to the raft, which carried around 10 people. They were rescued and brought onboard the ‘Enchantment of the Seas’. As per one of the passengers who shot the videos, “their raft was coming apart” when the ship spotted them.
So far there has been no comment from the shipping company on the rescue or the identity of the people on the raft.
