Hours after FBI agents raided former US National Security Adviser John Bolton home in a high-profile national security probe on Friday, US President Donald Trump lashed out at his former aide, while maintaining that he had no knowledge of the raid and learned about it watching TV.

“I’m not a fan of John Bolton. He’s a real sort of lowlife,” Trump told reporters, adding, “He was one of the people that forced Bush to do the ridiculous bombings in the Middle East. He wants to always kill people. And he’s very bad at what he does. He’s not a smart guy and he might be a very unpatriotic guy. We’re going to find out.”
Trump also claimed he had no knowledge of the FBI action, saying he learned of the raid only from television. He described Bolton as a “quiet person” who would only appear on TV “to say something bad about Trump.”

The FBI search, ordered by bureau director Kash Patel, was linked to allegations that Bolton included classified information in his 2020 memoir The Room Where It Happened. The Justice Department had dropped a criminal inquiry into the matter in 2021 under the Biden administration, after Trump unsuccessfully tried to block the book’s release on the grounds that it breached a non-disclosure agreement.
Minutes before agents arrived at his house, Bolton had taken a swipe at Trump on X, saying that despite Trump’s meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, there was “no progress on the Ukraine conflict” and that the talks “will continue because Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize.”
Russia has not changed its goal: drag Ukraine into a new Russian Empire. Moscow has demanded that Ukraine cede territory it already holds and the remainder of Donetsk, which it has been unable to conquer. Zelensky will never do so. Meanwhile, meetings will continue because…— John Bolton (@AmbJohnBolton) August 22, 2025
