Former Miss World Priyanka Chopra Jonas has always managed to stay ahead of the curve by giving her absolute. She even opened up about her routine, suggesting that she has a busy schedule with no time to sit and complain about gruelling work hours. “I have bad days just like everyone else, but I remind myself what a privilege it is to have all that I do, and I stop complaining and do my job. I put my feelings aside and deal with them when I get home,” said Chopra Jonas.

During the same 2024-Vogue India interview, she shared that ‘waking up at 5 am, working on set for 12 hours’ before heading home to her mom, Madhu, and daughter was routine. “It’s been amazing to have them with me in Australia, but if I am being totally honest, it’s also really challenging and somewhat isolating to be so far away from everything. My husband is busy with touring at the moment, but he finds the time to fly in for that extra TLC whenever he can,” she said.
Taking a cue from this candid confession, we asked an expert about how 5 am sets the tone for the day (and life) ahead.
Dr Manjusha Agarwal, senior consultant, internal medicine, Gleneagles Hospital Parel, Mumbai, said that waking up at 5 am can improve your daily routine and overall health. “Early risers often enjoy a quiet, distraction-free start, which helps with focus, planning, and productivity. They can stay active and energised throughout the day. This peaceful time allows you to incorporate healthy habits like meditation, exercise, or a nutritious breakfast, helping you to stay positive for the rest of the day,” said Dr Agarwal.

When we talk biologically, waking up early aligns better with the body’s natural circadian rhythm, improving sleep quality and energy levels.
“Moreover, it also aids in better mental clarity and emotional stability. When your day starts early, you’re more likely to stick to a structured schedule, meet goals calmly, and reduce the rush and stress that often builds later,” said Dr Agarwal.
According to Dr Agarwal, one can follow a structured routine and finish their work on time without working longer hours and doing extended shifts. “Over time, this consistency promotes discipline, better time management, and improved physical and mental well-being. Whether you’re pursuing fitness, career goals, or inner balance, waking up early can be a good idea and undoubtedly help with peace of mind,” said Dr Agarwal.
