At least five people were killed in a mass shooting at a market in the Thai capital, Bangkok, on Monday, before the gunman took his own life, a police official confirmed as per Reuters.

According to Charin Gopatta, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, the gunman opened fire at the Or Tor Kor Market, known for selling agricultural produce and local food. He shot and killed four security guards and a woman before turning the gun on himself.
The Erawan Emergency Medical Centre, which monitors Bangkok hospitals, also confirmed the casualties.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
